Montana Renewables is in Great Falls, Montana. It is not in a place called Calumet. An exhibit filed with the SEC on October 10, 2023, describes it as an unrestricted subsidiary of Calumet, with a permitted capacity of 15,000 barrels per stream day of renewable feedstocks, and says commercial operations began in late 2022. A May 2024 investor presentation, filed with the SEC, states permitted capacity as 230 million gallons a year and describes the plant as running. It says the renewable-diesel unit started at the end of 2022 at a lower rate, and that a sustainable-aviation-fuel unit and a pretreater were commissioned in mid-2023. On feedstock, management in that presentation said the plant baseloads low-carbon-intensity corn oil, has an advantage in canola, buys tallow from nearby, was commissioned on 100 percent tallow, and does not normally run soybean oil. Those feedstock and operating statements are as of that May 2024 presentation. Source: Calumet investor presentation filed May 2024.
This profile does not convert 15,000 barrels per stream day into gallons, and it does not treat later expansion plans, a second reactor, or a loan announcement as current capacity. It also does not adopt the company’s description of itself as the largest SAF producer in the western hemisphere.
